Just an Average Day in the Life of the Newlyweds

Most of the time we have a routine because I work office hours and H is on time off for the time being. So, weekends are really the only time we can play.

I’m finding playtime usually consists of laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping.

But sometimes good things happen. Saturday, for instance. Here are some snapshots of just an average day. Which happens to be today.

Just an average day in the life of the newlyweds

There is creative baking some days. Usually it’s because someone has given us some sort of ingredient, which forces using the oven as well as Googling recipe after recipe. The hope is to find a way to use said unique ingredient without having to purchase too many new items in order to use it.

In this case it’s rhubarb. We ended up buying absolutely everything you need to make strawberry rhubarb pies but you know what? The pie is so good we would be silly not to go against our “rules” just this once. I’ll call it the Rhubarb Exception Clause.

There are also iced coffee days. We all know I’m a coffee drinker, but H is only a recreational user. He has aspirations to become a more Roste-like coffee drinker but you know, it’s not for the faint of heart. It takes time.

In the spirit of compromise, and because iced coffee’s at McDonald’s are $1 all summer long, we go for flavoured iced coffee. I think they’re OK. Today I tried to make them at home but without flavour. H added a bunch of sugar in the end and that was only after I dumped half the concoction out of the blender and had a meltdown in the tiny kitchen.

We also have hockey days. Since the playoffs are on the CBC we can watch it at home. And since we live DT and our team is in the Stanley Cup Finals (LET’S GO CANUCKS!) when we win, we go drive the strip honking our horns and celebrating with half the town.

Today was a good day.

  • Thanks a lot, now you have me craving strawberry-rhubarb pie! That has to be one of my top three favourites, right up there with apple and saskatoon berry pies.

  • Those pies are delicious looking. Yum. They are selling rhubarb at the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday – last go around I made rhubarb crisp (buying no extra ingredients!)…but I may have to make this pie. Yum.

Me and Jord go for Mcds Iced Coffees too..only a dollar all summer! (hehe-love that jingle!) But I’ve been making my own for some years now..it’s an iced Java mix you can buy at Superstore, you add milk, and ice to the syrup, and old coffee if ya want to give it a more distinct coffee flavor, we love them! ~sharon
