My Husband’s Biggest Fear: Becoming a Househusband

Recently I learned about my husband’s biggest fear. I suppose it didn’t come up before because he wasn’t married before and marriage has inspired said fear.

Recently I learned about my husband's biggest fear. I suppose it didn't come up before because he wasn't married before and marriage has inspired said fear.

I’ve mentioned my husband works away from home but I haven’t been terribly specific. He works hitches away from home and sometimes they can last for three weeks at a time. Yikes!

However, since mid-April he has been off work. It’s called spring breakup. Which is funny because we got married during spring breakup. Actually, it’s not really that funny, just ironic wording.

While he awaits the glorious dreaded callback I’ve been rather pampered. Breakfast and dinner prepared and on the table for me, lunch set out before I leave for work, and the house is, like, clean when I come home. Wow. Luxury.

And now my husband’s biggest fear is becoming a househusband

According to Urban Dictionary, a househusband stays at home while his wife goes to work. Even though that’s what is happening here I don’t really think my husband is becoming a househusband. Mostly because he’s going to work probably soon and will no longer be at home while I go to work. He will not be home period.

Wondering if your husband is a househusband? Here are the signs

  • He is married to an university graduate wife who has skills that are equal or superior to his
  • His roles in the 21st century are similar to what women had to endure in the 20th century
  • He receives a bi-weekly honourarium from his wife to cover any personal expenses he may incur in his day to day living
  • He is encouraged to maintain a well developed physique as to remain incredibly physically attractive to his professional wife

So while he’s home I’m going to enjoy my not-househusband to the infinity and while he’s not I’m going to have to figure out how to use the stove again.
