However, growing a freelance busines takes concentrated effort and strategic actions, and there are a few common mistakes freelancers make that could be holding you back.
Newer freelancers may default to making decisions out of fear of disappointing clients, which can destroy your confidence.
Short-selling yourself
Selling yourself short is one thing that can hold you back from growing your freelancing career. It may be true that you won’t charge high fees at the beginning of your career. But that doesn’t mean you should sell your freelancing writing services cheaply.
A professional writer that provides value to clients deserves a good paycheque. Therefore, dare to negotiate better rates. Low prices can dent your professionalism and long-term success. Additionally, if you sell your services way too cheap, you may struggle to make ends meet.
Trying to do it all
Freelancers are notorious learn-it-all generalists who love helping. But trying to do too much is a dangerous habit that can burn you out and ultimately destroy your freelance writing career.
This partly comes from the internal belief many freelancers have, thinking they need to do everything from designing their logos and websites to reconciling their books.
The reality is, while you may be able to do “everything” at some point, it’s not worth it and it may be time to outsource so you can maintain a reasonable workload. Pretending to be an expert

However, calling yourself an expert when you don’t have commensurate experience can do more harm than good. Marketing yourself beyond your capability can put your credibility at stake.
