4 Simple Ways Freelancers are Finding New Clients In 2025

In any business, finding, winning, and keeping clients is paramount.

And in this economy? Finding good clients quickly is more important than ever.

A solid prospecting strategy changes how you run your business. It removes “feast and famine cycle” from your vocabulary. And it’s the kind of thing that will help secure a stronger future for your business.

Let’s take a look at some simple ways freelance writers can find new clients in 2025

With *everything* in mind, it’s a good time to build out a system for continually generating leads (prospects/potential clients).

My favourite strategy is what I call the Follow-Up Framework, but that’s best used once you already have people in your pipeline.

Go where your ideal clients are

It might sound obvious, but you do need to make sure you’re hanging out where your ideal clients spend time if you want to develop prospects into clients from scratch. And by “hanging out” I mean contribute authentically to the community and become visible as a leader within it.

This sounds basic, but it works! Show up, give to the community, demonstrate your expertise, and be available when people ask for help. It’s low-pressure sales at its finest.

Use systems

Another way to prospect is by using the tech available to you. This could be as simple as documenting your pitches in a spreadsheet, upgrading your invoicing software to something that suits your workflow, or impressing your clients with your automated onboarding and offboarding processes.

The more tasks you can simplify, systemize, or stop doing the more space you’ll have to focus on the actual work. So try and be open to it!

Get professional help

All of this and more is going to be made a lot simpler if you have the right help by your side, which is why I’m a huge advocate of finding a coach who understands the work you do and is a few steps ahead of you.

Of course, working one-on-one with someone may not suit you, your learning style, or your budget, but there are other ways to surround yourself with good people. It could even meant building a team or or subcontracting services from advertising companies, marketing consultants, or graphic designers (for example).

Encourage referrals

When it comes to getting clients, referrals are one of the biggest ways freelancers find work. Referrals can happen organically—when one of your connections recommends you to one of their connections on their own—or through something like an incentive program or a keep-in-touch strategy.

When someone refers you, you’re already ahead because that lead is going to be so much warmer to the idea of working with you than someone you’ve cold pitched.

So there you go, there are four tactics to consider when it comes to finding new clients in 2025.
